Robert Foster
Robert Foster
Robert Foster was the first born to George and Mary Singleton Foster. His birth date is estimated to be around 1725 while the family was still living in Essex County; before it was Caroline County. Demands are always made on the first born especially if it is a son. So it was with Robert. He matured early because of demands made on him by his large family. This could be the reason that he married young. He was only 19 or 20 years old. His bride, Charity was a year or so younger. We do not know the family name of Charity. It has eluded us through the years. Regardless, Robert and Charity settled in on land that either they bought or rented as no deed has been found to show that they bought land in Amelia County or in surrounding counties. They would have five children: George, Mary, Elizabeth, Francis, and Joshua. Sometime after Elizabeth was born in approximately 1749 he moved his family to Lunenburg County which had just been formed in 1746 from Brunswick County. Their next to children, Francis and Joshua were born there. Robert has been reported to have died in 1755 in Prince William County. Prince William County was formed in 1731 from King George County. Since we know that Charity had died prior to 1730 and do not know the county in which she died we are left to reason why Robert was in Prince William County when he died. He might have been living with one of his children or he and Charity may have moved there prior to either of their deaths. The majority of his children were raised by his father George Foster.
