Francis Foster, son of Robert and Charity Foster, was born around the year 1749 in Lunenburg County, Virginia most likely in that part of Lunenburg County that would eventually become Charlotte County. Regardless, it was on his parent’s plantation (farm) that he grew into a man. He and his second cousin (once removed) Mary, called Polly Foster, daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth Webb Foster, grew up together. Even though it was discouraged, that cousins marry, Francis and Polly were in love and – second cousins, once removed – is not that close. They were married on January 26, 1872 in, then Charlotte County, Virginia. Mary was born on February 4, 1764 so Francis was considerably older than Polly. The children of Francis and Polly were: Francis, Jr., George, William, Thomas, James, called “Bully Jim”, Robert, and an unknown sibling.
